Our Coalition is United Under a Common Vision for SGA and UTC
Our Platform - designed for you.EMPOWER UTC is committed to enhancing student experience at UTC under three main goals:
|
How We'll Make it Happen
|
We intend to create real, reflective representation by first increasing the size of the Student Senate. We recognize that the some of the best representatives for SGA are those students who are well-connected and have a diverse range of leadership experience, but it is often those same students who find it difficult to be a part of SGA with the number of responsibilities that our senators currently have. We are looking to better distribute the workload among as many student as possible so as to involve as many different voices in the conversation while attracting some of the most talented leaders and influential voices on campus.
Additionally, we plan to reach out to all student organizations and specifically to minority organizations, who's members are often those most-overlooked. We'll do this so that we can target specific campus leaders and advocates and bring them to the table. We intend to increase student engagement with the UTC experience as a whole. This means reaching out to students early and convincing them that investing time into UTC is the best decision they can make as a student of this University - this begins with orientation and continues on throughout the year when we create specific "collision opportunities" a phrase we use to describe intentional, SGA-sponsored opportunities for student organization members to engage and network with one another. We also intend for members of SGA to be prominent faces on campus. A representative from the College of Arts and Science will have their contact information posted in the primary academic buildings that cater to that college - the same goes for every other college and every other primary academic building. SGA will table in the UC, not just to promote our events or initiatives, but to update students on the work we're doing on their behalf. By getting students invested in UTC, we can get them invested in one another. We intend to create true, intentional transparency, because students deserve to know what work SGA is doing. SGA has consistently promised to be transparent with the student body, but has been severely falling through during the current school year. In the chaos and excitement that comes with SGA, transparency seems to be the first initiative to be relegated to a lower level of importance. To us, this makes no sense. Serving students is SGA's primary function - any route of communication with them should be a top priority. To us, true, intentional transparency means ensuring the ease-of-access to all Senate materials on a timely, consistent basis. This means that all meeting minutes are organized, detailed, and published on Orgsync. It also means a cleaning out of our Orgsync to consolidate older files and make way for new ones. It also entails a complete overhaul of SGA's current social media plan. Right now, SGA's social media is primarily used for live tweeting guest speakers, self-promotion, and event-promotion. While all of those things are important, they do not fully communicate the work of SGA to the student body. We'll be utilizing social media to gauge student input on bills and resolutions, to live tweet the outcomes of those bills and resolutions, and to further transparency in any other possible way. |
